Dear Parents
The summer term is progressing and it is now only
six weeks until the summer holidays. Of course
a lot is happening here as we are in the middle of the SQA examinations and
busily preparing too for the visit of our new S1 pupils as well as the concert
to mark the end of our tenth anniversary year.
Our new timetable will start on 4 June which is only two weeks away and
at that point all of our pupils move up a class.
I am delighted by the support you have given us in
the last year about school uniform. The
vast majority of our pupils are now wearing full uniform in school and we are
receiving many compliments from the community.
I am sure we can do even better next session and continue to be as proud
of our pupils as we are now.
A lot has happened in the school since Easter. Most of the adaptations to the Assembly Hall have
been done, the lighting, sound staging, seating and curtains are in place. We have come to a standstill at the moment
because of the SQA examinations but work will resume once they are
finished. The screens will be put in
over the summer and the hall will be painted and we will have a new
carpet. Our pupils are going to choose
the colour of the carpet and the paintwork!
A lot of work is also being done to upgrade our
computers and also introduce the latest systems of digital projectors into the
classrooms. The provision in computing
technology will be greatly improved during the holidays so that all pupils will
be affected on a daily basis. It is very
exciting.
Our School Board have also been busy as we move
from a Board to a Parent Forum with a Parent Council. We would like to have as many parents
involved as possible so do let me know if you can spare a few hours every six
weeks or so. No skills or knowledge are
needed!
As you may know there have been changes in our
music department since Mr Toner retired and Miss Riddell left to be
married. Mrs Eleanor Paul joined us
after Easter as Principal Teacher of Music and Miss Eve McGarroll
will be coming to teach in the music department from 4 June. We wish them both well.
For the moment our priority is for our pupils to
focus on work whether it is exam or class work up to the end of term. In this way they will get the most out of
this session and have a good start for the next. I know you will want to support us in this.
As always we hope that all is well with our pupils
and their families and please do let us know if there are any problems so that
we can help. We always look forward to
hearing from you.

BIOLOGY DEPARTMENT –
On
two very cold days before the Easter Holiday, senior pupils planted about 200
trees in Middleton Community Woodland.
The pupils were assisted by their teachers and the Countryside Rangers. Once they all got used to the mud, everyone
worked very hard and really enjoyed the experience.
As
a follow up to this activity, the S5 and S3 Managing Environmental Resources
classes made nesting boxes which will be placed in the woodland. Some will also be placed in the school
courtyard garden.

NEWSDAY CHALLENGE
The
Newsday team recently received feedback from the TES, who run the
competition. The overall grade was
commended and the TES said “A very good effort Braeview, which I enjoyed
reading. There is much to be proud of
here. Some of the pages are very nicely
designed and the use of blocking was particularly effective. The standard of journalism was also high – I
particularly liked the news section (Miki’s mural and trident story) and the
reviews of ‘The View’ – well done!”
CURTAIN UP!
Our
latest production ‘Curtain Up!’ will take place on the 19 and 20 June,
beginning at 7.30pm. This lively show
includes songs from High School Musical, Queen and Grease and involves pupils
of all ages as well as some enthusiastic staff.
This will be our first show with our new stage, seating, light and sound
systems as well as curtain up for our brand new curtains.
ACTIVITY DAYS 2007
We
will be running three Activity Days on Wednesday 30 May, Thursday 31 May and
Friday 1 June. This will be the last week
of the present timetable, so it is a good time to do something different! On these days, many pupils will be going out
of school on trips to various places.
These are organised by staff in various departments.
There
will also be trips linked to Praise Assemblies, where pupils who have behaved
and worked well during the year will be rewarded with a trip. If your son/daughter is going on any of the
trips you will receive information and a consent form beforehand.
For
those pupils who are staying in school, we hope to arrange a variety of
activities over the three days. These
are still being organised, but they will be different from normal school
lessons and we are sure there will be something for everyone to enjoy!
